Social Enterprise trains rats to detect mines and you can adopt one.
The social enterprise behind Hero rats has just won a £500,000 Skoll Foundation grant to develop its work using rats to sniff out threats to humans from landmines to disease. You can adopt one of the little critters for 5 euros a month. Christmas present? Read more here and hat tip here.

A quick round up of thoughts on Local Councils in virtual worlds like Second Life. My idea of hell.
It is hard enough warming concils up to the idea of leaving simple comments on blogs which link to useful information found on their website (a website which is capable of ceating permalinks). At this stage trying to lure local authorities into virtual worlds is actual lunacy. -
